Measurement Math Unit Test

On Monday, I sent home a Math Unit Test for our last unit which covered the Measurement strand. Please sign and return this test. Also, take a minute to look over the test with your child. This unit covered a lot of material; money, time, volume, capacity, mass and speed. A surprisingly high number of students are still struggling with how to tell time on an analog clock! I realize that most students have grown up using a digital clock or checking the time on a cell phone, however it is an important skill to know how to read an analog clock. It may be a good idea to check in with your child and see if they have mastered how to tell time on an analog clock. Specifically, when the minute hand is between 30 and 59 minutes students had a difficult time remembering that the hour hand has also moved towards the next hour. Also, encourage your child to count the change you are given from the cashiers at stores! We played a fake "store" game and most students walked away from the cashier without checking their change. However, in this game, the cashier (me) kept giving them the incorrect change! Very few students actually checked or counted to see if the cashier gave them the correct change! This math unit was full of real world math examples that I encourage you to review with your child at home. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Merci!
