Thank you!!

Dear parents and students:

I wanted to take a quick minute and thank all the parents and students for a wonderful year! I had a great year with the students and it was fun to see them so excited and interested on a daily basis about my pregnancy. Thank you to everyone for the lovely gifts, which were very kind and generous. I will miss Dewson and all the students next year, but I will definitely aim to visit during the Dewson Welcome Back BBQ in September! The final vote by the students was 21 students think I'm a having a boy, and 4 think it's a girl! The students begged me to keep them updated, so I will keep you posted, via the blog, when the baby arrives! Have a GREAT summer!

Reminders for Last Day of School

Thursday is the last day of school! WOW! The school year has gone by so fast! I wanted to send a quick reminder home about the last day. The roof is scheduled to be tarred on Thursday, so if anyone has Asthma or breathing issues, please think about this before sending your child to school.

By Thursday, students should have brought home all their work (duotangs, art portfolios, journals, etc). They shouldn't have anything left at school. They are encouraged to check out the lost and found and make sure nothing is left in the hallways. There will be a short goodbye ceremony at 3pm on Thursday as we say goodbye to our Grade 6 students for the last time!

Please let me know if you have any questions for Thursday! THANKS!

Reminders for Tuesday & Wednesday

Here are few reminders for this final week of school:

Tuesday June 23rd is Grade 6 Graduation: Grade 6 students are asked to arrive between 1:00pm and 1:30pm and make their way to the library. The ceremony will begin at 1:30pm in the gym. Parents are asked to pick up students by 4:30 from the gym.

Wednesday June 24th is Dufferin Grove Park Day: We will be heading back to Dufferin Grove park again on Wednesday for the whole day. They are planning on taring the school roof and therefore we won’t be able to open windows and it won't be pleasant at school. So spending the day at the park, will be a better alternative. The same rules and recommendations apply to this trip to the park as last week, except that this week we won’t be making pizzas, so everyone must bring their lunches/snacks. No permission forms or money required because it’s a walking excursion. Any parents who can come or help with the walk over or back would be appreciated. Parents and pets welcome to meet us at the park again if you’d like. Please let me know if you have questions.

Journal Writing Over the Summer!

On Thursday I sent home your child's French and English Journal. I used their Journal entries as a way for me to see their unedited writing levels throughout the year, and how their writing progressed from Term 1 to Term 2. These journals did count towards their French and English writing mark. There are still  many prompts left and many blank pages left in the Journals. I encourage the children to use these Journals over the summer, and add their own stories to them! Encourage your child to use this journal to jot down ideas or write a about a vacation or a funny story. It would be great for students to be writing in French also so that in September they haven't forgotten too much of their French grammar! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Reminder- Trip to Dufferin Grove Tuesday

Just a reminder that on Tuesday, June 16th we will be heading to Dufferin Grove Park for a fun day outside. We will leave Dewson at around 10:30am and return at 3:15pm. We will be walking over and from 11- 11:45 we will be making  personal sized pizzas in the stone oven at the park. The pizzas aren't very filling for a full day at the park so I suggest the children still bring a packed lunch and 1 or 2 water bottles. Please dress for the weather and bring sunscreen if needed. It might rain in in the morning but the weather looks good for when we plan to arrive.

Parents (and pets) are welcome to join us at the park -the more the merrier! We didn't factor in parents making pizzas, though. So please bring food for yourself if needed :) Sometimes parents bring snacks for the children to share, that's totally fine, but please keep in mind the no nut and no dairy rule still applies in the park.

Children can bring balls, frisbees, outdoor games, etc...but please no water guns or water toys. If the splash pad is open, students can go in as long as they have a towel, bathing suit or a change of clothes. ( In my experience students are very uncomfortable all day if they get their clothes soaked and have no dry clothes!)
I'm looking to a fun day! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Assessments and Tests Coming Home to be Signed

Dear parents: Over the past few weekends, I have been busy reviewing student work and providing written feedback on various final assignments and assessments. I am hoping that your child is bringing home these assignments for you to review and sign. My goal all year has been to keep you updated as we go on your child's progress. I still have a few more assignments to review and send home next week. If you have not seen any work coming home in the last few weeks, please check in with your child. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the work that is coming home.

Dewson Festival is Thursday June 11th

Just a quick reminder that Thursday night, June 11th is the DEWSON FESTIVAL! Please make sure you have made arrangements with your child for when or where you will meet them after school. It is always a fun afternoon and I look forward to seeing you at the festival. Don't forget to check out the multicultural dinner and listen to the Grade 6 Steel Pan presentation at 5pm in the gym. If your child is NOT taking the bus, please make sure to phone the school and cancel them off the bus. Thanks!
