Today we began our new Math unit which is Transformational Geomerty! This unit will be looking at how we move shapes around a 2D plane. Today I showed students a good old-fashioned map of Toronto and I had each of them find their street and look up their street on the map based on the coordinates. With GPS and smart phones the students were quick to to point out that we are very rarely without WiFi or cellular data to help direct us to our destinations. However I still think knowing how to use a map is an essential life skills. Perhaps if you have maps at home you could look up points of interest, or street names and practice using the coordinate system on the map. Have fun!
