Film Fest Trip & a Few Updates

French Film Festival- Monday March 2nd:
Monday is our class field trip to Cinéfranco to view the French Film- Le petit Nicholas. Students may bring money to purchase snacks but keeping track of this money is up to them. The snacks are likely expensive and there will be many other students there. I am encouraging students to bring a small snack along with them that fits in their pockets instead.

Social Studies/ French Persuasive Letter:
The students have been asked to complete the rough copy copy of their social studies letter for Monday. Hopefully students have been working on this a little bit every night! I have been encouraging students to write in their agendas daily to help them stay organized and on top of deadlines. Please touch base with your child to see how the rough copy is going. I wouldn't want any of the students to have to spend hours working on this on Sunday night!

New Math Unit - Probability:
We have started our Probability unit in Math. We have be discussing outcomes of simple probability experiments, e.g. flipping a coin, spinning a spinner. Students have even had a chance to test out their predictions by conducting experiments, e.g. flipping a coin 20 times and spinning a spinner 20 times. I have also been bringing in my daily Tim Horton's cup to discuss Roll Up the Rim to Win probabilities with the students. (I have won 3 food prizes out of 14 cups so far!) I calculated the odds of winning each prize and we discussed as a class that it is very very unlikely that I will win a car, TV or $5000 Visa gift card! I asked the students to bring home the sheet containing all the Roll up the Rim to Win odds. It would be great to have a conversation at home with your child about likelihood of random events happening. For example, why is it unlikely that we will win car in Roll Up the Rim? What about winning a donut? If we flip this coin 20 times, how many times do you think it will land on heads? For those that are interested, here is the official Tim Horton's Roll Up the Rim to Win site where I found all the numbers for calculating the probabilities of winning each prize:  https://www.rolluptherimtowin.com/en/in-restaurant/rules

Have a great weekend!
